Project summary
A grant of $55,000 enabled Quercus Beechworth to undertake conservation works to the former Methodist Church in Beechworth, repairing extensive water damage within the nave.
Built in 1857, it was the first permanent church building on the Ovens goldfields. Today, the building is a much-used community centre, offering a range of activities including community food programs, educational activities and community gardens and provides a government access point.
The grant has ensured this historic building continues to serve as a meeting point for the local community.
The grant recipient report
“The restoration of the Quercus hall has re-energised the pride that Quercus and the town has in this particular heritage building.
I look forward to celebrating the hard work of the people who worked on the building, and those who made it possible. Thank you!”
