Heritage Victoria has published revisions to the Guiding Principles for Changes Proposed to Places in the Victorian Heritage Register.
The Principles (September 2021) replace the July 2019 guidance. The revised document:
- Provides additional clarity on understanding the significance of a place, and acknowledges that additional significance may be identified beyond the statement of significance.
- Revises the language of Principle 2, based on feedback from the May 2021 consultant’s forum.
- Affirms Heritage Victoria’s position that the overdevelopment of heritage places can be highly impactful and is generally not acceptable.
Recognises that the spaces between buildings and structures can be significant to the setting of a place.
