Altering the registration or removing a place or object from the Heritage Register
The process for adding a place or object to the Victorian Heritage Register is a considered one. A place or object cannot be added to the Victorian Heritage Register before the Heritage Council of Victoria seeks the view of the owner.
Once a place or object has been added to the Register, owners can apply to have the extent of registration altered. Altering the extent might include increasing the extent to which the place is included in the Register, or applying to have the extent reduced.
Applications to reduce the extent of registration or to remove a place or object from the Heritage Register are rarely approved. Reducing the extent of registration or removing a place or object from the Register would require the applicant to demonstrate that the place, or the extent of registration, does not adequately satisfy the criteria of the Heritage Council of Victoria.

Owners can apply to have permit exemptions put in place for registered places or objects. Permit exemptions are tools under the Heritage Act which provide an opportunity to identify works which do not require a permit. Exemptions provide an opportunity to save time and resources for both permit applicants and Heritage Victoria.
