Victoria's Heritage Strategy

(last modified 18/12/2008 4:42 PM)

Victoria's Heritage: Strengthening our communities is the Victorian Heritage Strategy. It will;

  • Articulate a broad vision for heritage conservation and interpretation in Victoria

  • Deliver programs and initiatives that will strengthen communities

  • Provide new opportunities for them to manage and interact with the State's diverse heritage places, objects and collections

  • Provide financial and practical assistance to owners and managers of heritage places and objects, especially community groups

The Victorian Government announced in the 2006/07 budget that it would commit $20.5 million dollars over the next four years to implement Victoria’s Heritage. Implementation of the Strategy will be led by Heritage Victoria, although as a whole of Victorian Government strategy, other government agencies and departments will have a lead or partnership role in delivering specific actions and outputs. With the exception of those programs that are led or resourced by partners outside of Heritage Victoria, all funding for the Strategy’s implementation will be through the $20.5 million budget.

Hon. Rob Hulls, Minister for Planning, launched Victoria's Heritage: Strengthening our communities at the world heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building on Tuesday 4th July 2006.
