Caring for places and objects This information leaflet tells you - how Victoria cares for its historic buildings, gardens, shipwrecks and archaeological sites and heritage objects.
- explains briefly the thinking behind our laws for preserving these places and objects
- sets out how we go about deciding what is important and how best to protect it
- gives information about the various government and non-government bodies concerned with the conservation of heritage places and objects.
Protecting historic designed landscapes This information leaflet tells you how Victoria cares for its historic designed landscapes, cemeteries, gardens and trees. It describes how the Heritage Council decides whether a designed landscape is of historic importance or note and explains briefly the laws that can be used to protect it. It also gives some information about researching the history of a garden and how best to develop a plan for its conservation.
Guidelines for nominators to the Victorian Heritage Register This Information Leaflet explains how to nominate places or objects (other than shipwrecks or shipwreck relics) for the Victorian Heritage Register. It also explains briefly the criteria used by Heritage Victoria to assess nominations and what constitutes an acceptable nomination.
Registration by the Heritage Council This Information Leaflet tells you what registration by the Heritage Council means, what kinds of places are added to the Victorian Heritage Register and what the implications are for an owner. It explains how to nominate a heritage place for the Register, the decision making process involved in registration and the difference between the Heritage Council, Heritage Victoria and the National Trust. The document also explains how you can find out if a particular place is included in the Victorian Heritage Register.
