In cases where large alterations or changes are proposed, it is also recommended that applicants employ a recognised heritage professional to ensure the works do not adversely impact the registered heritage place or object.
Depending upon the nature of the works, applicants might need to employ conservation architects, archaeologists, horticulturalists or conservators.
Fees are waived in the following instances:
- Conservation works such as repair, restoration or reconstruction.
- Pensioners who carry out works to their own homes.
