Submerged landscapes in Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, Australia
This research project investigates how ancient land surfaces survive beneath modern marine sediment and sea water. It reconstructs the drowned landscape and ancient environment of Port Phillip Bay area during the height of the last Ice Age, and just prior to it being flooded by sea water.
It is the first of its kind in Australia, and hopes to demonstrate the value of European methodologies for investigations in Australian environments.
