Rare footage of Melbourne's cable trams
Cable tram conductor
The 14 minute film of Melbourne's cable trams was shot by Neville Govett, a cable tram enthusiast and amateur movie maker, during the 1930s. Heritage Victoria's senior architect, Robert Green, provides the commentary to further explain the images, and a soundtrack was added to coincide with the centenary celebrations of the Melbourne cable tramways on 11 November 1985.
A very brief sequence in the film shows a cable tram shunting on the section of track recently unearthed in Abbotsford Street, North Melbourne. To watch this film go to the Google Video direct web link.
